New Barbie and Grateful Heart
Price is what you pay. Value is what you get. – Warren Buffett
When Arabella received a new barbie a couple of weeks ago as a special treat she was joyous in a way that only a 3 year old can be. She first exclaimed: “I’ve wanted this all of my life”, despite the fact that it was, of course, a toy she had never actually seen before.
She calls her “Relexa” and would not be swayed from that name despite the box’s insistence that the doll was named Alexa and the Barbie movie after which the character was fashioned persistently mispronounced her name. After a few minutes of playing with her new princess, she once again put an exclamation point on the fact that she is the only child in the house with two X chromosomes by taking a deep breath, gazing pleasantly into the little plastic face and whispering, “So romantic”.
Sometimes I wish I could step into her mind, or remember mine at her age. If only I could be so easily satisfied by a $16 toy. The value of this moment far outweighed it’s price. Life was good for my Belles that day.
