Closet Trekkie

Ok, I don’t have a miniature USS Enterprise on my desk, I’ve never been to a convention dressed as a Klingon warrior princess, and I don’t have a screen name like “JenTheBorg” on any Fan Message board.  I am, however, a closet fan of the Star Trek series and the movies (yep, I’ve seen them all)  and I’m only slightly embarrassed to admit it.  I mentioned in passing that I wanted to see the newly released Trek movie yesterday at lunch, halfway expecting to be laughed at by everyone at the table and instead got a roaring endorsement from none other than my non-sci fi lovin’, “fiction is a waste of time” quotin’ husband!  He was apparently a closet Trekkie as well, at least with respect to the original Shatner/Nemoy series. And yes, I sadly do know that the correct term to characterize us is “Trekker” since we are simple fans and our lives are not consumed by the passion that is Trek.  Anyway, don’t think I didn’t jump on my new-found knowledge.  I had mom and dad lined up to babysit (thanks, guys) and we were off to the movie 5 hours later.

Going out to the movies is a rarity for Brad and I as our schedules and the four little people living in our house tend to prevent it.  Going out to the movies last minute is absolutely unheard of.  I, quite obviously, wanted to catch this flick.

And I was not disappointed!  It was fun, intense, and mind-bending all at the same time.  Brad and I actually discussed the intricacies of the space-time continuum on the ride home.  Now that’s the sign of a good movie, huh?

Yep, I gotta fess up – I love me some Star Trek 🙂 .
